This recipe will make 2 different pastries, one with chocolate cream cheese and one with strawberry cream cheese. Yum!
Ingredients Needed :
- 1 box of Puff Pastry, thawed out about 15-20 mins, you still want the dough to be a little cold ( I used Pepperidge Farms, it has 2 sheets inside the box)
- 4-ounce block of cream cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 eggs, 1 will be used for egg wash only
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 Hershey chocolate bar
- 1/3 cup of strawberry jam
- Good music playing in the background
Chocolate/Strawberry Cream Cheese Pastries
- In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugar, 1 egg, and vanilla and set aside.
- You will want to lay out the puff pastry on a flat surface once it has thawed.
***Now is a perfect time to turn the oven on to 400 degrees!***
Cut the puff pastry dough into squares.
I want you to see, you do not need any cutting skills or measurements for this.
You can also use a regular knife or pizza dough cutter. I just happen to have a special Athletics Italian Heritage Night pizza cutter, because I’m cool like that. {wink, wink!}
I was able to cut 24 strips and left them on top of one another so that when I fill them, I can use the same size dough.
- Take one piece of the dough, I used the smaller looking strips of dough for the chocolate pastries.
- Put 2 squares of the chocolate. If you can fit more, go for it!
- Put a small tablespoon of cream cheese mixture.
- Lay the other piece of pastry on top.
- Using a fork, your going to press down to indent and close the pastry, kind of like a ravioli.
- You will do the exact same thing for the strawberry pastries. I used the bigger looking strips of dough for these to fit more inside. I was also able to just squeeze out the jam, super easy with the squeezable bottle!
I just want to pause for a minute and give myself a pat on the back for my exquisite baking terminology. I so greatly explained above that I used the “Bigger/Smaller looking pieces of dough.” Haha!
Once again, trust me, you do not need to know much about baking to make these delicious pastries!
I was able to make 12 of these. It was a pretty hot day, about 100 degrees outside when I made these.
When I was done putting the dough together, I put the cookie sheet in the fridge for about ten minutes for them to harden.
At this point, I am hoping that there are 6 strawberry ones and 6 chocolate ones. I kind of mixed them up. Oops!
But hey, it will be a great surprise when you bite into one!
- Right before you put these in the oven, beat together one egg and about 1 tablespoon of water.
- Then use a brush to coat the pastries.
- Put in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees!
Now don’t these look purdy!!! They didn’t look so good going in the oven, a bit messy. You can’t go wrong with these! I told you to trust me! Easy Peasy!
