You tap on my heart
Yet I brush You away
I falsely claim
I will pray later today
You know my heart has lied
My lips have spoken deceit
Yet again, You tap on my heart
Taking another loving leap
I falsely claim that I will make time for You … but not right now
Work, bills and presents to buy, is all the time I can allow
Your heart is grieving, and You feel so alone
Soon it will be Your birthday, and no one has come around
You have asked no one for a gift, only wanting our time
We brushed You away, asking “Can we pray another day?”
You replied, “That’s fine.”
But as You sit on Your throne in Heaven
You begin to cry
Water rapidly falls onto the Earth from the grey skies
I wipe away the rain from my eyes
I see clearly that You have kept me alive
Kept me alive through every storm
Kept me sheltered from all harm
Yet somehow, I let the harshness of this world
make my heart grow cold
I have become blind to the blessings
You unfold
I have become forgetful of the wonderful promises in my Book of Life
You have foretold
I open my mouth with praise and worship
I open my Bible and proclaim Your word
I begin to meet You in fellowship
I realize my actions have been absurd
I bow down, this time
To You and You alone
I am done worshipping other idols
For my sins I atone
You celebrate!
Finally, You have the greatest birthday gift of all
The overdue submission of my heart
On my knees I fall
I surrender all
I surrender all
